The creation story of the Rainbow Serpent is common to many Indigenous peoples across Australia, and tells of the great serpent who travelled across the land, creating gorges, creeks, rivers, lagoons and mountains.
Lardil people can also recall, according to the story, the punishment from Lardil boys and women who offended the law by calling Godulla open, his fury caused destruction throughout the land. The Rainbow Serpent tradition connects all Kriol cultures, featured on this stamp, including the story of the Rainbow Serpent, called Anggoor of Boigu, among other names, who created the natural features of the landscape.

Image design: Shane McGrath
Stamp photograph: Geoff Shaw
Printed by McKellar Renown

2 Available

165/500

179/500
