MODEL T
1913
Ford
First introduced in 1908, the Ford Model T motor car made Henry Ford a household name around the world. From 1913, Ford’s ingenious use of the moving assembly line in his Detroit factory brought the car within the financial reach of ordinary people. Generous wages also had a significant impact on industrial relations laws. In addition, the success of the Model T promoted the introduction of a modernised road network across the entire globe.
For two decades, the Model T was the world’s best-selling car; between 1908 and 1927, a staggering 15 million Model Ts were made and sold around the globe. In Australia, the Model T was first made available in 1908 as a knock-down kit assembled by local dealers. Its subsequent success led to the opening of Ford’s first Australian factory in Geelong in 1925, where the Model T rolled off the production line until 1928. The stamp depicts an Australian-built Model T Ford from 1913. This postal numismatic cover is a limited edition of only 300.
